We are excited to present a new event called ‘Hewn from Nature’ in late October 2022. This event will be a female sculptor making a wood carving with chain saw and chisel over two weekends for visitors to see it created in real time. The carving will begin as a 1.5m log and evolve into the shape of stacked river stones. This is an outdoor art event that has been designed to promote the importance of sustainable art to park visitors. The narrative theme is about using nature to protect nature, and we want to draw attention to the negative aspects of the ‘rock stacking’ trend seen in national parks and by local rivers. It may seem like harmless fun and make for a great Instagram picture, but experts are warning the rock stacking trend is putting endangered Australian animals at risk. This event will also enable visitors to see an unusual art practise in comfort and safety. The chainsaw carving will occur between 10am and 4pm on Saturday October 22 and the sculpture will be fully completed over October 23, 29 and 30 between the hours of 10am and 4pm.
